GNOME 3.18 on Wayland 1.9: Complete Test Drive

GNOME – Desktop Environment with the best Wayland support today. Really, I try to run KDE on Wayland – it works, but without word stable. Here is GNOME/GTK+ applications that work native (without XWayland backend) in GNOME Wayland session:

1

GNOME Settings

2

GNOME Photos

3

GNOME Terminal

Shotwell

GNOME System Monitor

GNOME Boxes

8

GNOME Builder

GNOME Calc

GNOME Character Map

10

GNOME Clock

GNOME Accounts

GNOME Disks

Documents

GNOME Software

GNOME Weather

Result

All general GNOME applications works nicely in Wayland session. With some heavy apps like LibreOffice I have problems with performance, typical apps works faster with Wayland. Some information about video demonstration: VP9 codec from Google is not the best choice and GNOME Recorder is currently unstable: you can see some freezes and slow speed of the interface. Guess your question “GNOME Wayland session is ready for everyday using?” – answer – yes.
